Preschool Math

Good Morning Quinn!

I just wanted to make sure I wrote a quick update to you about your continued growth and development since I realized I have not written in over a month. The other day you impressed me SO much. I did not know that you would be able to compute a simple math problem at three years old but you did and it amazed me.

Every morning on the way to school we talk about how many school days are left in the week until we can get to our two "play days". Then we talk about what that day is called, for example today is of course Friday which means it is the last school day of the week and tomorrow is a play day! Yay!

So, on Wednesday you asked if the next day was going to be a play day. I told you no, and that today was school day number three, as I held up three fingers. I then asked you, while putting up my other two fingers (making a 5 with my hand) If we have three school days, and we need to get to five before the next play day, how many more school days do we have left?  Almost without thinking you confidently said TWO!

I didn't expect you to say the right answer and you blew me away. I know it may seem simple, but seeing you make that connection, even if you were just paying attention to the other two fingers I put up and counting them, seems like a big accomplishment. Maybe it is just mama bias, but I did not realize a three year old would be able to piece that together.

I could not have been a prouder mama at that moment. I love you  my sweet, smart boy.

XOXOXO,
Mama
