Preschool Power Struggles

Hey Quinny,

We have been getting out and about a lot lately and trying do things you haven't done before. This past weekend we flew a kite for the first time over at Tinker AFB and you loved it. We used your Cars kite that Aunt Stephanie and cousin Kaleb got you this summer. We also had your 3 year old pictures taken this weekend and I am still waiting to get those back. We also went bowling two weeks ago and it was so cute watching you get so excited and cheering me on saying "Good Job Mama!" even if I got a gutter ball. I still love every minute of seeing you accomplish and try out new things.

Last Sunday we went to the natural history museum to see a bug display with large scale models of bugs. You like bugs a lot and we go on lots of bug hunts in the back yard, but you were not that into the models. You preferred the dinosaur skeletons instead.  It was a good time.

For some reason, lately you have been extra angry and defiant, not wanting to listen and carrying on. I feel so overwhelmed sometimes and then react in ways that I wish I hadn't. You had a particularly hard time the other day when you were supposed to be going to sleep but did not want to. I ended up just closing both of us inside your room and sitting in front of your door and just tyring to hold you and rock you until you stopped. At first you did not want me holding you but then you gave in and just cried while i held you. At that moment I just flashed back to when we used to nurse and it made me sad because my natural reaction was thinking that I wish I could just nurse you again to calm you down. Of course I couldn't because we had not nursed since you were like 16 months old, but it just seemed at that moment that is what could have helped! For some reason you have been having  a lot of outbursts like this lately and I don't really know what is going on except that you are just testing your limits and have discovered that you have your own mind and opinion of things. I am not sure. I just hope this rough patch is short lived.

You continue to amaze me with your intelligence and you know all of your numbers, shapes, colors and letters and will spell things. It makes me so proud! We have started teaching you your states and then we discovered that you knew the pledge of allegiance and we didn't even know you knew it! You told us you learned it at school. It was so neat to see you recite it. Daddy got it on video.

It is Monday, and already I am looking forward to our Play Day. That is what we call the weekend now. The week is divided up into School Days and Play Days so that you know weather we have to go to school or if we get to stay home.

Valentines day is coming and I have a cute little valentine that I made for you. I am excited to give it to you.

Until next time bubba!

Love,
Mama
XOXOXOXOXO
